The trimming die performs the operation of trimming the excess material from the pre-upset head, leaving the final profile — hex, square, special — with clean faces and dimensions within the standard. It is the station that turns a rounded preform into the precise hex head of the screw, controlling the across-flats distance and the concentricity relative to the body.
Subject to intense shear stress, it is made of carbide or high-toughness tool steel, with sharp cutting edges and wear treatment. KS supplies the die in the across-flats size per KS/ANSI/DIN/JIS/ISO and replaces the tooling, which is a naturally wearing item due to the nature of the cut.
