The segmented die is assembled from two or more segments fitted inside a ring/case, instead of a solid block. This construction makes it possible to form geometries that a one-piece die could not open or release — recesses, flanges, profiles with undercuts — and eases maintenance, since only the worn segment is replaced, not the whole die.
Each segment is ground individually and the assembly is mounted with pre-stress to withstand the forming pressure without opening at the parting line. KS designs and replaces segmented dies according to the part, optimizing maintenance cost (replacement by segment) and service life.
