The hex die has a hexagon-shaped cavity and forms the six-sided head already at the upsetting stage, when the process calls for a formed head rather than a trimmed one. It defines the across-flats distance (the screw's 'wrench size'), squareness and surface finish — dimensions that must match the customer's tightening wrench per DIN 933/931, ISO 4014/4017 and equivalents.
Made with a carbide insert in a steel case under pre-stress, with a ground cavity. KS supplies the die in the across-flats size required by the standard and replaces inserts and sets, preserving interchangeability with the existing tooling.
