The die lock is the component that secures and locks the working die in the die holder (block) of the cold former, keeping it firm and aligned under the repeated impact of upsetting. Precise locking is what prevents the axial displacement and play that produce out-of-dimension parts, strike marks and, in the extreme, insert breakage. It is a process safety item as much as a quality item.
